Welcome to the Billboard Chart Beat Podcast, where each week co-hosts Gary Trust and Trevor Anderson, from the Billboard charts department, discuss why what's on the charts … is on the charts, while also looking at current chart action in a historical context for even greater insights. In the last podcast of 2017, we welcome two special guests: Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Jackie Jackson of The Jacksons and Fred Bronson, longtime Billboardwriter (including of the Chart Beat column) and author of the new book, The Jacksons: Legacy.
During the MAX Proms event in The Netherlands on December 2nd, Jermaine Jackson introduced his sons Jaafar (21) and Jermajesty (17) to perform together live on stage with the full Metropole Orchestra singing "The Christmas Song". This exclusive performance marks the stage debut for Jaafar and Jermajesty and is special because it's the first time Jermaine and his sons performed together and because Jermaine sings "The Christmas Song" again which he recorded for The Jacksons 5 Christmas Album in July of 1970 at the age of 15. Jermaine performed a set of hits with the orchestra during the televised MAX Proms event that aired on NPO2 in two shows on Christmas (25 December) and New Year's Eve (31 December) ringing in 2018 with "When The Rain Begins To Fall".
Jermaine Jackson performed during the Adventure of Humanity World Peace Night at Villa Oxygen in May of 2017 and he will be performing again at the Maracana Stadium during the Zico All Star Game on December 27th in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where Adventure of Humaity continues in support of all children's Equal Rights.
The ruling from judge Mitchell L Beckloff resolves one of the last major claims against the holdings of the "King of Pop", who died in 2009 aged 50. It was decided that the two Jackson-owned corporations that were the remaining defendants in the case were not liable for Wade Robson's exposure to the singer. The judge did not rule on the credibility of the allegations themselves. Mr Robson's lawyer, Vince Finaldi, said his client plans to appeal against the judgement.

That well-worn cliche "It was a night to remember" has rarely been so true as it was for the OUT100gala, a night of deserved celebration for the LGBTQ community. Janet Jackson was in attendance and received OUT's 2017 Music Icon Award, alongside an audience that included OUT100 honorees Chelsea Manning, Jonathan Groff and Wrabel, as well as guests including Michael Sam, and the Hamilton star and Tony winner Renée Elise Goldsberry.
“Words are necessary and mine are few so I’m going to try and speak from my heart,” Jackson said to the crowd during her acceptance speech. “My heart says thank you, your appreciation means the world to me. My heart says thank you for being and having the courage to be who you are. Thank you for giving others the courage to be who they are.”

Katherine Jackson, matriarch of the Jackson family, has surrendered her co-guardianship over Blanket aka Bigi, Michael Jackson's youngest child, who is now 15. According to court documents, Katherine has filed papers to hand over sole guardianship of Blanket (real name: Michael Joseph Jackson, Jr.) to TJ Jackson, Blanket's 39-year-old cousin. "Katherine is no longer needed to fulfill the duties that were necessary when joint-guardians were appointed," the documents state. "Given her own age and the fact that [Blanket] is now 15 years old, Katherine feels that TJ is able to assume all necessary responsibilities of the guardianship for the Minor Child." Along with TJ, Katherine was appointed joint legal guardian of all three of Michael's children (Blanket, Paris and Prince) on Sept. 14, 2012, following Michael's tragic death.
