Michael Jackson’s blockbuster album Thriller just keeps on getting bigger. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has certified the set at 33-times platinum in the U.S., extending Thriller’s record as the highest certified album in history. That means Thriller -- released in 1982 -- has earned 33 million equivalent album units in the U.S. That sum blends traditional album sales (one album sale equals one unit), tracks sold from an album (10 tracks sold equals one unit) and on-demand audio and/or video streams (1,500 streams equals one unit). The RIAA revamped its Gold & Platinum Awards Program on Feb. 1, 2016, growing from a pure album sales certification process to one that includes tracks and streams. That same day, Thriller’s certification was raised from 30 million to 32 million. Thriller continues to maintain its place as the highest-certified album ever, ahead of Eagles’ Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975, with 29 million. (It was last certified on Jan. 30, 2006.). Thriller was released through Sony Music Entertainment’s Epic Records and spent 37 nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. The mega-successful set was the first to generate a record seven top 10 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, including two No. 1s: “Billie Jean” (No. 1 for seven weeks) and “Beat It” (No. 1 for three weeks). In 2015, Thriller was named the biggest album of all time by a male artist on the Billboard 200 chart, and the No. 3 title overall. Simultaneous with Thriller’s raised certification, its follow-up, Bad, climbs to 10-times platinum (the RIAA’s Diamond award). Jackson is one of just 22 acts with more than one Diamond-certified album. Thriller has sold 105 million copies globally.
Bad Certified RIAA 10X Diamond in Recognition of US Sales & Streams of Over 10 Million, making Michael Jackson th eonly artist with two albums in the RIAA certification list.
Janet Jackson is loving motherhood! Janet welcomed her firstborn son, Eissa Al-Mana on January 3rd in London. She was recently was spotted in a North London flower shop. "She has hired help at home and her husband been with her through it all," says a source to E News. "It was a difficult pregnancy, but she is very blessed and has a healthy baby. A select few have seen her baby. She is so excited to be a mom." In addition to hired assistance, mother Katherine and sister Rebbie are paying a visit to the new Jackson. "It seems like her family is staying close to help and support Janet." Back in California, another Jackson was welcomed into the family as well. Jermaine Jackson Jr. and his partner, Asa Soltan Rahmati (Shahs of Sunset) welcomed their son Soltan Jackson on January 20th.
Katherine Jackson claims she was the victim of years of mental abuse at the hands of her nephew and driver, Trent Lamar Jackson, to the point where she is afraid to return to her home. According to court documents Mrs Jackson (86) claims her nephew (through marriage) has accessed her bank accounts without her permission, used credit cards of hers for his own personal purchases without authorization, and subjected her to years of mental abuse that has left the Jackson Family matriarch “in a constant state of fear and confusion." Mrs Jackson describes her nephew Trent as “an abusive con-man” who has manipulated her in order to “assume control of her finances.” Katherine says she tried to fire her nephew and order him to move out of her guest house, but he has refused. Katherine is currently in London with daughter Rebbie visiting Janet and her family but is “afraid to go home with Trent there” and “fears he could physically harm her for terminating him.” A judge granted Mrs Jackson’s request for a restraining order and ordered Trent to move out of her home and return all keys, passwords and combinations to the property.
A hearing has been scheduled for March 1st.
Trent Lamar Jackson is speaking out against claims he's been abusing his aunt Katherine Jackson. The younger Jackson appeared on the podcast "Crime Stories with Nancy Grace," which released Monday. He denied allegations he has been trying to control the 86-year-old Jackson family matriarch.
"My aunt left here January 22," Jackson said. "She left me paying the bills and taking care of the household." Katherine Jackson was granted a temporary restraining order against her nephew, who according to court documents is accused of having "manipulated her" and "preyed on her kindness."
"Trent was supposed to be her driver, but over time has infiltrated Mrs. Jackson's business and personal affairs, even referring to himself as her 'House Manager,'" a statement included in the restraining order reads. "Trent has made it his business to regulate Mrs. Jackson's interactions with her children -- screening phone calls, not relaying messages, not allowing privacy during visits or phone calls."
But Jackson said during the podcast that the allegations are not true and insisted his aunt has frequent contact with other family members. "How can I keep her from her family when they come there everyday," he said. "She has the attorneys making sure her money is being applicated in the right way, and we also have an accountant who looks at all the bank statements."
Trent Jackson said his aunt flew to London to see her youngest daughter, Janet Jackson, and her newborn son and he has not been in contact with her since she left. He also said he's never been served with the restraining order and is still at the house.
